Preparing For The Fall Redfish Season

The fall redfish season is a great time to get out on the water and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year. Florida’s gulf coast is a prime destination for redfish, and the Fall season is when the action starts to heat up.

Fall: A Special Season for Inshore Reds

The Tampa area is host to year-round fishing that never slows down. However, fall is primetime for redfish anglers for several reasons.

First, our busy season ends when summer comes to a close. Most people and families return to the status quo as jobs resume and kids return to school. As a result, less on-the-water traffic makes for a more serene experience. Fishing pressure on redfish also diminishes, and they become more willing to bite.

The weather is also an important factor during fall. As the water begins to cool, baitfish activity remains high. This, in turn, attracts predators like redfish. Eventually, baitfish will move out of the area as things continue to cool off. However, once temperatures drop, anglers have a chance to target reds “tailing” as these predators search the ocean floor for food like shellfish and crustaceans.

Additionally, in the fall, offshore redfish begin to move to shallow waters to set up for spawning activities. As a result, reds can be found in schools along the coast, which creates a fantastic opportunity for anglers looking to catch large quantities of fish.

The bottom line is that we’re preparing for a season full of busy redfish activity, especially in the shallow water bays and estuaries of coastal Florida. Fall is the time of year when redfish activity peaks, making it a great time to get out and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year.
